SecurEnvoy and AEP develop a BYOD solution for providing remote access to business applications

In a joint project, security experts SecurEnvoy and Ultra Electronics AEP Networks have developed a solution for providing remote access to business applications. The system combines the SecurAccess two-factor authentication solution from SecurEnvoy and LANProtectTM from AEP. The latter allows business applications to be accessed via web browsers from desktop, iPad/iPhone and Android devices, and SecurAccess ensures unambiguous identification of users by means of personal login details and a dynamic passcode, which is sent to the user’s mobile device by SMS, e-mail or smartphone app.

AEP Networks specialises in the development of solutions that can be used by IT departments to securely connect end users to internal business applications. This helps to fulfil the increasing need for flexibility among the many users that access business applications via Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions such as Citrix, VMWare and Microsoft Terminal Services. Users want to be able to work with a range of end devices, such as private or public computers and tablet PCs. This can lead to a significant increase in employee productivity, but the use of external devices involves security and compliance issues in terms of ensuring legal protection for companies.

Flexibility with a double layer of security

In this joint project, SecurEnvoy and AEP bundled their skills and expertise in order to provide secure remote access. One of the components is the LANProtectTM solution from AEP. This is available as hardware, a virtual appliance or an end point solution, and enables access to business applications via web browsers, regardless of whether the applications are running on Windows 2003, 2008, Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop, VMware View, web servers, 3270 mainframes or other types of server. The LANProtect™ solution allows any application to be accessed by users from any client device, including iPad and Android tablets.

In order to ensure that users can unambiguously identify themselves when logging in, the SecurAccess two-factor authentication solution has been integrated with LANProtectTM . The user enters his or her personal log in details as well as a dynamically generated passcode, which the system sends to the mobile device. In other words, the smart phone, tablet or other mobile device effectively acts as an access token. This allows companies to make savings as they do not need to acquire hardware tokens, such as USB sticks. Instead, employees use a device that they almost always have with them anyway.

“Having a strategic relationship with SecurEnvoy will allow both companies to work together offering what the marketplace really requires in authentication. I am sure that working with SecurEnvoy will provide a strong and lasting partnership and provide a unique offering to customers globally”, says Daniel Mothersdale, VP Global Sales & Marketing at Ultra Electronics AEP Networks.

“The combined know-how of AEP and our company has gone into this project and we have been able to develop an easy-to-use security solution, which thanks to SecurAccess is very secure with regard to preventing unauthorised access,” comments Steve Watts, Sales Director at SecurEnvoy. “We look forward to seeing how the product and our cooperation with AEP will develop in the future.”
